It's That Time of Year Again
For holiday porno catalogues. This one doesn't seem to be as over the top as last year's, but it still is ridiculous enough for a giggle to oneself periodically. Again, I am dying to know the type of person who would go through this catalogue and actually order any of these obscenely expensive food items in anticipation of taking care of their Christmas dinner via the US Postal Service. Okay, I can see maybe ordering the difficult to find Irish Cashel Blue cheese (which is swooningly delicious, BTW) or a particular caviar to supplement your holidays. But if you're a serious cook (and that's probably why you're on the WS mailing list), you can probably *make* most of what's so glossily spread for your pleasure in these pages. You can frigging roast/smoke a turkey, a ham, and bake biscuits, for cryin' out loud. For a whole hell of a lot less money.
The first page drapes open like a centerfold. Close-up pics of melted chocolate, nut and-caramel studded confections, a gleaming copper kettle... And then you get to read stuff like this: 'Our signature sweets are the result of a slow, hands-on process that begins with simple, premium ingredients that include fresh dairy butter, heavy cream, pure cane sugar and creamy Guittard couverture chocolate made with the finest hand-selected cacao beans.'
Hubba, hubba!!!!
The only difference between this and say, a Playboy mag, is that you can't fantasize that what's on the pages wants you as much as you want it.

Yeah. Last year's catalog was better for laughs. Meats, desserts and marshmallows, all yours for 6 or 7 times what us thrifty Michiganders would pay.
