Worried
We finally faced reality this week. Or rather Tim did. He made the phone call to set up an exam for Mocha Java, our middle cat. There is most definitely something wrong with him. There's been something wrong since around the holidays or a little before. We've been sort of taking a 'wait and see' approach. He's got a great appetite and he's eating plenty, but losing weight at an alarming rate (my jaw just about hit the exam table when they weighed him yesterday...only 8.1 pounds. He was 13 just a few months ago). He's drinking gallons of water. He's lethargic. He's cranky.
So we're thinking diabetes. Or kidney failure (to our knowledge, he has not eaten any of the food that's been recalled because of contaminants. And anyway, all three cats eat the same blend of food, and the other two are healthy as horses). Or possibly a thyroid problem.
We're supposed to get a call today with the lab results. I'm pretty sure this is going to involve expense and/or heartbreak. Hopefully this will not be a situation where we are faced with something untreatable and we have to make...THAT decision. My brain just won't go there right now. He's not even 8 years old yet. I just can't get around the idea of losing him.

Aw, bummer. Still, it's best to try to deal with it as directly as possible.
