Irony

---[Wikipedia] (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eironeía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance) is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what one says or does and what one means or what is generally understood. Irony is a mode of expression that calls attention to the character's knowledge and that of the audience. There is some argument about what qualifies as ironic, but all senses of irony revolve around the perceived notion of an incongruity between what is said and what is meant; or between an understanding of reality, or an expectation of a reality, and what actually happens.


---While having that special little time of the month, a decent woman should definitely not ACT like she's having that special little time, no matter how uncomfortable it is. Whereupon she is attacked by a shrewish, snarling coworker who is acting every bit as though SHE is on the rag.

---My least favorite coworker (she of the cashmere sweaters and nice leather shoes, and of the day-shifter persuasion) asks me what needs to be done with a pile of print-outs the minute I walk into the room. Mind you, I have not been anywhere near this room for 4 hours. No, I have been running every frigging CBC on the back-up analyzer one floor down, because the main one is broken (again), so...how would I have seen why someone placed them in that spot? Say, why not look up some of them in the computer, and see if they're done, then move them the necessary 6 inches to their file? While needlessly wiping down all the counters, she's huffily telling me that this suggestion is a 'waste of time'.
