Watching Ringside From Beyond The 'Burbs

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's press conference outlining formal charges against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick et al

If only more people just came out this way and told it the way it is. I loved the way she pointed out that even little children have the sense to know it's wrong to lie. I hope all these charges stick and the arrogant, self-entitled liars are brought as low as the law allows.

Of course there are lots of people who don't share that opinion. Interviews with people in a Detroit barber shop revealed that all too clearly. 'Oh, it's too soon to press all these charges, they should take more time to investigate everything'. Statements to that effect. What really grated was the so-called opinion of a 14-year old boy who basically parroted the opinion of his father. 'Oh he ain't done nothin' rude to nobody, he ain't done nothin' wrong...' Great. Glad to see the generation to come will be there to perpetuate the corrupt Detroit machine we've all been watching for decades, and elect the next bozo from the same mold.

Detroit has such potential. We have favorite spots we enjoy visiting like Eastern Market. It's got a big waterfront. Ethnic neighborhoods. Major sports teams. Interesting downtown architecture and scenery. A rich history. It's all right, but couldn't it truly be great with someone a bit less self-absorbed at the helm?

Instead it's great for making national (and probably international) headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Not to mention prying! You leave poor Kwame's private, personal life alone. And think of all the work he had to do to pull all those strings to come up with a good reason for firing police officers and get $8.4 million to make the whole steaming pile disappear. He sooooo tired and sooooo misunderstood!
